Cutting Guides

The first step in cutting is to remove the top tier cake. The top tier is usually reserverd for the first anniversary so is not usually figured into the serving amounts unless it is decided that it will be not be saved. You then continue cutting begining with the 2nd tier, followed by the 3rd tier, and 4th tier and so on.

  OVAL CUTTING:
To Cut Oval cakes, you begin 2 inches from edge and and cut across. Then slice 1 inch pieces of cake. now move in another 2 inches and slice again until the entire tier is cut.
 
  ROUND CUTTING:
To cut Round cakes, begin 2 inches from edge cut a circle and then slice 1 inch pieces within the circle. Move in another 2 inches cut another circle, slice 1 inch pieces and so on until the entire tier is cut.
The center core of each tier and the smaller top tier can be cut into halves, 4ths, 6ths, or 8th's depending on size.
 
  PETAL-SHAPED CUTTING:
Follow a similar patter as with round tiers.
 
  HEXAGON CUTTING:
Follow a similar pattern as with round tiers.
 
 

HEART-SHAPED CUTTING:
Divide the tiers vertically into two halves, quarters, sixths or eights. Within rows, slice one inch pieces of cake.

     
 

SQUARE CUTTING:
To cut Square cakes, begin 2 inches from edge and cut across. Then slice 1 inch pieces of cake. Next move in 2 more inches and slice again until the entire tier is cut..
